With less than a fortnight left for the World Cup to begin, ABP Live runs a check on the teams participating in the tournament. We now talk about Bangladesh, who will be participating in their fifth World Cup.
Will Bangladesh stun the World as they did in 2007?
Bangladesh cricket team has the ability to defeat the strongest of teams. They created such a magic in 2007 when they defeated Rahul Dravid led Indian team and entered the super eights with a roar. In World Cup 2015 the idea of Bangladesh stunning the world with a magnificent performance seems a little vague as they have not won a single ODI against the top cricket teams in World in 2014.
Bangladesh’s best performance came against Zimbabwe when they had a clean sweep in a five match series. They have been in a losing position since the last world cup but meanwhile the only statistics that show some ray of hope for Bangladesh are that they reduced Sri Lanka to 67 for 8 and India to 105 all out. They also scored 326 against Pakistan but still lost all these matches. Even Afghanistan defeated them in the Asia Cup last year.
The positive points Bangladesh have this World Cup are their inform ODI specialist batsmen and the bowlers who can create wonders if they get used to the conditions. They have useful all-rounders in the team who posses great fielding skills as well.
Bangladesh has been in highest of spirits since they have come to Australia for the World Cup. Theirs is a team full of enthusiasm and hunger for winning on big platforms. If other teams are not scared of their skills on the field, they must be a little hassled with the energy and the smartness young lads from Bangladesh show.
Three players who can take Bangladesh to a long way in this World Cup are Shakib Al Hasan, Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rehman. Shakib had missed the last world cup due to injury but this time he must be dying to pay back all together. The experienced batsman who can be a useful bowler is like a backbone of the team. All he needs to do is raise his standards of both batting and bowling.
The dashing batsman Tamim Iqbal who has the ability to change the game in just minutes is going to be captain Mashrafe Mortaza’s trump card.
Mushfiqur Rehman has been the best batsman of 2014 has the ability to take the team out of blocks. He can change the colour of his game as the team needs him. Bangladesh team relies on him big time for this World Cup.
No matter if Bangladesh has been the best team last season or the worst, you can never judge them. They are the most unpredictable cricket team in World. With the potential to perform against any team they can be a threat, especially for India and South Africa.
